Sri Mariamman Temple is as awesome as it looks and it is certainly worth a visit for numerous reasons. Numerous colourful deities, magnificent sculptures and kitsch plasterwork. However, it will be best to know some things before visiting.
Does the temple have a dress code?
Dress conservatively and cover up your legs and shoulders. Make sure you remove your shoes and store them around the entrance in the designated area.
When does Thimithi occur in Sri Mariamman Temple?
Mid-October to mid-November, a week before the Hindu festival of lights (Deepavali).
What is the best time to visit the temple?
It is best to visit the temple right after sunset or early in the morning. In that way, you avoid the crowds and the burning floor.
What are the operating hours?
The temple accepts visitors from 07:00 to 11:30 and 18:00 to 20:45.
Does it have an entrance fee?
The temple is free to visit. However, if you want to shoot photos or record videos with your cell phone or camera you need to purchase a permit — 3$ and 6$, accordingly.
How can you best enjoy the experience?
- Ring the bells in the temple doors to alert the gods of your visit or departure
